This article argues that the prosecution of the Indigenous Maya Chortí defenders – Javier López Miranda, Antonio Hernández Pesquera, Higinio Caballero, Gerardo García Peréz, Efrain Pesquera Vásquez and Javier Madrid Rodríguez – is a gross misuse of the Honduran criminal justice system and an outgrowth of severe institutional failure.
